Can I Use Solar Energy to Heat Water?

Next to the heating and cooling of a residential building, providing hot water for your use, is the second biggest collector energy consumer. For businesses such as apartments, hotels and motels, condominiums, laundromats, restaurants and others, the heating of water is one of their most costly expenses. Using the sun's "free energy" to heat your domestic water or your swimming pool is the most practical and least expensive application of solar energy available at this time.

There are perhaps a dozen or more manufacturers of thermal solar systems. They vary widely in price and efficiency. Choosing the right system and then the right manufacturer can be very important.

Five main types of solar water heating systems are sold today. They are:

  • Batch
  • Thermosyphon
  • Open-loop direct
  • Pressurized glycol
  • Closed-loop drainback

Of these five, several dozen variations have been installed over the past 25 years. The proven winners are simple, reliable, and long lasting. All can significantly reduce your energy costs.

Using solar energy to heat water is an age old process. But it can be expensive. So its important to review those economics and know what incentives are available. Silver State Renewables, Inc. can design your system, work with the local inspectors to obtain the proper approvals, and then supervise the installation of the equipment to assure your satisfaction. Call or email us, with your questions, or for a quote.

In the following paragraphs you will find links to thermal solar module manufacturers and additional resources for more information. We recognize that when you click on one of these links you will leave our website and may never return. While we certainly hope you will take advantage of our services at some future date, we feel privileged  to have played some small part in helping you learn more about how you can "become more energy independent". Come back and see us when you're ready.

Who are the Manufacturers?

The thermal solar industry is quite diverse. In some cases you can purchase absorbers or whole systems from the manufacturer, from dealers and distributors, from heating and air conditioning contractors and installers, from plumbing supply houses or from catalog sales outlets specializing in renewable energy products. Only absorber manufacturers are listed below. Others may be out there also.
