Passive Solar Buildings - Design and Operating Concepts 

This brochure summarizes the important concepts that must be addressed when contemplating the design or remodeling of a building to better take advantage of passive solar energy in a cold climate. Though each building and location is different, all of the more general "rules of thumb" are discussed. 

Energy Audit

An energy audit is a more comprehensive analysis of the energy requirements of a building. In addition to a more definitive review of the potential for using passive solar energy concepts, it also includes a review of the heating and air conditioning systems, the appliances, and the types of energy you're currently using. In the final report, it suggests how you can save money and become more energy self sufficient.  You will be asked to to provide a sketch of your building and grounds, your energy bills for the last year or so, and an appliance summary.

Classes

Classes can be arranged to be given in your community to discuss not only the potential for using passive solar energy but also how to go about doing it.  

Performance Modeling

If you're interested in building a new house or remodeling an existing home and want to determine what it will cost you to heat and air condition the structure, before you begin the construction, modeling it is the best way.

Wind Turbine Technology  

A consultation of this subject would include an analysis of your energy consumption patterns, sizing the appropriate turbine, and suggesting the appropriate manufacturer based upon your choice of best available technology, best value for the money or lowest cost. 

At an additional cost (typically 8% of the capital cost) we can provide the appropriate drawings for your local inspectors and utility representatives to obtain the proper approvals and then supervise the installation to assure your satisfaction.

Photovoltaic Solar Energy

A consultation of this subject would include an analysis of your energy consumption patterns, sizing the appropriate array, and suggesting the appropriate distributor based upon your choice of best available technology, best value for the money or lowest cost. 

At an additional cost (typically 8% of the capital cost) we can provide the appropriate drawings for your local inspectors and utility representatives to obtain the proper approvals and then supervise the installation to assure your satisfaction. 

Hydroelectric Energy

Geothermal (Ground Coupled Heat Pump) Technology

Since sizing the ground heat exchanger is a complicated process Silver State Renewables, Inc. can offer you and your heating, ventilating and air conditioning contractor state of the art expertise in this area. In addition we can design the rest of your system.

At an additional cost we can provide the appropriate drawings for your local officials and inspectors to obtain the proper approvals and then supervise the installation of the equipment to assure your satisfaction.

Standard 12X20 Solar Greenhouse Design 

A standard greenhouse design would be one in which is of a standard size, highly insulated,  with a low outside air infiltration rate, partially filled with  55 gallon drums or one gallon milk jugs of water, and optimized to take in solar radiation at  a 45, 60, 75 or 90 degree angle depending upon your location and weather conditions.

A standard hot frame design would be one in which is of a standard size, highly insulated,  with a low outside air infiltration rate,  partially filled with  one gallon milk  jugs of  water and optimized to take in solar radiation at  a 45 or 75 degree angle depending upon your location and weather conditions.
