Can an Energy Audit
Help Me Become More Energy Efficient?
Most buildings in America were built when energy
was relatively cheap. Today that has all changed. With electricity rates
increasing at about 12% per year and natural gas, propane and fuel oil prices
rising at about 25% per year, heating, cooling and electrifying your home or
business is now very very expensive. An "Energy Audit" is the first step in the
process to make these buildings more energy efficient.
In conducting an "Energy Audit" you will be asked to provide some information related to the
size, construction and configuration of your building. You will also be asked to provide
information about the equipment (furnace, hot water heater, air conditioning
unit, etc.) in this building and what the utility bills have been
over the last several years. Our aim would be to answer the following questions:
- What should your expenses be, based upon a heating, cooling
and hot water load calculation?
- What are your actual costs?
- Why the difference?
- What can be done to improve the energy performance of your building?
- With the rising cost of all energy forms, what makes sense in the future?
Having gathered the information and made
the necessary calculations, we would produce a report which would
recommend the changes to be made to the building to improve its
performance. The report would also suggest strategies to reduce the
impact of future energy price increases.
